National Hydrographer of Sri Lanka Attended the 02nd Hydrographic and Oceanographic Conference under CSC

National Hydrographer, Commodore Kosala Warnakulasooriya attended the Second Edition of the Oceanographers and Hydrographers Conference under the umbrella of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) from 28th to 31st January 2024 held at India. The conference was aimed to provide a platform for a review the cooperation in the fields of Hydrography and Oceanography undertaken so far under CSC and sketch out a tangible strategy for strengthening collaborative activities in the fields of hydrography and oceanography in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

The inaugural session of the conference was hosted by National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) at Chennai and final session of conference held at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Hyderabad. The conference was attended by Heads of Hydrography and Oceanography Institutes of the member and observer nations of the CSC including Bangladesh, Mauritius, Seychelles and India. Dr. G. A. Ramadass, Director NIOT chaired the conference and progress on-going projects in the field of energy & desalination, coastal engineering, deep sea technologies, marine bio technology, ocean observation, ocean acoustics, coastal vulnerability, coastal management, marine pollution were discussed during the conference. The National Hydrographer also visited High Frequency (HF) radar site at Kalpakkam with the delegation as part of the conference.
